UPDATE: Victim of weekend homicide identified as Nyreesh Amari Smith

On Monday, May 5, Troy Police Chief Danny Barron confirmed the identity of a homicide victim over the weekend as Nyreesh Amari Smith.
Smith, 19 at the time of the incident, was just hours away from his 20th birthday, according to Barron. Smith was a Troy native and graduate of Charles Henderson High School.
Troy Police responded to reports of a large crowd and noise at the 100 block of Dunn Circle on May 3 at 10:30 p.m. Upon officers arrival, multiple gunshots were heard and Smith was discovered on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers attempted CPR until Troy Fire personnel arrived but, sadly, Smith succumbed to his injuries later.
On Monday, Barron issued a plea to Troy residents – and anyone that was at the scene – with information on the shooting to report it.
“There were probably 150-200 people at that party. We know that several people saw what happened,” Barron flatly said. “We’re making a plea to those that were there to do the right thing. It could have been your brother – your loved one – that was killed and if it was, you would want someone to speak up for them. We’re really hoping for someone to step up and do that.
“We need someone to come forward. I think we have a lot of good leads and I think we’ll get there, but we still nee people to come forward, too.”
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact the Troy Police Department at 334-566-0500, email police@troyal.gov, or call CrimeStoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).
