For Pike County High School senior Zane Rigdon graduation will be an almost unbelievable time.

Rigdon will play first chair saxophone with the Southeast Alabama Community Band on Monday night at the Claudia Crosby Theater, an opportunity which he said is a tremendous honor.

“To have the opportunity to play with so many outstanding musicians is an opportunity that I look forward to,” Rigdon said. “Just being in the audience would be an honor, but to play with The Southeast Alabama Community Band, is something I’ll always remember … and appreciate.”

PCHS band director Jonathon Chance said after making the Alabama All-State Band for three years, Rigdon set a goal for his senior year that he was going to make first chair in the Alabama Al1-State Red Band, which is the highest honor for a high school musician. First chair means you are the number-one player in the state, Chance said.

“With Zane’s hard work, he achieved this goal. We are all so proud of him. He will represent, not only our band, but also our community and school system,” Chance said.

Rigdon has received the Alabama Prestige Scholaarship that will cover tuition for four years, at the University of Alabama. His hope is to be a member of the Million Dollar Band.
