Troy Athletics holds annual Trojan Tribute Awards Ceremony

Troy University Athletics held its annual Trojan Tribute ceremony on April 28, presenting top athletic and academic awards to the school’s student-athletes.
The headliners for the banquet were the Male and Female Athletes of the Year. Basketball player Zay Dyer and volleyball player Tori Hester were named co-Female Athlete of the Year, while baseball player Brooks Bryan earned Male Athlete of the Year. The Troy men’s basketball team also was named #OneTROY Team of the Year.
Dyer set the Troy women’s basketball single-season rebounding record this season and earned All-Sun Belt honors as she helped lead the way to the women’s teams first-ever postseason championship appearance in the WNIT. Hester was named the Sun Belt Volleyball Player Player of the Year and earned All-American honors as she set the Troy all-time kills record.
Bryan earned All-Sun Belt honors last season and was also a member of the U.S. Collegiate National Team and was named semifinalist for both the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy as he set Troy’s single-season RBI record to go along with 18 home runs. The men’s basketball team won a Sun Belt regular season and tournament championship and made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017.
Track athlete Abby Grosinske was presented with the Trojan Way Leadership Award, which is given to a student-athlete who is “the epitome of a Troy student-athlete and is the true definition of a student-athlete leader both on campus and in the community.”
Volleyball players Jaci Mesa and Janelle Stuempfig were joined by Grosinske as the Sorrell Award recipients, which goes to a female graduating student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA. Golfer Jake Springer earned the Clements Award, which goes to the male student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA. The men’s and women’s tennis teams also won the Team GPA Award.
Track’s Mario Tullis and golf’s Brinson Hall were awarded the Strength of Character Award, while track athlete Javon Osbourne was presented with the Male Strength and Conditioning Award. Softball player Cassidy Boltz earned the Female Strength and Conditioning Award.
Bryan and track athlete Kady Schwietz were presented with the Total Trojan Award and football player Ethan Conner won the Male Heart of a Warrior Award. Stuempfig took the Female Heart of a Warrior Award.
Baseball player Will Butcher won the Male Newcomer of the Year and Boltz won the Female Newcomer of the Year. Basketball player Cooper Campbell won Male Freshman of the Year, while volleyball player Kalina Calvillo took the Female Freshman of the Year.
