Sometimes, there are “don’t miss” events that, if you do miss, you’ll long regret it.
One of those “don’t miss” events will be Monday night at the Claudia Crosby Theater on the campus of Troy University when the Southeast Alabama Community Band takes the stage. The concert is free and everyone is invited.
The Southeast Alabama Community Band will celebrate 25 years of making music. And counting.
Doc Kirby of WTBF Radio has been playing with the community band for 20 years. He had the honor of the playing with the community band when it was conducted by Dr. Johnny Long the master of band music.
“I’ve also had the honor of playing in the Southeast Alabama Community Band conducted by James Smith and Ray Smith,” Kirby said. “Ray will be conducting this year.”
Kirby said the Southeast Alabama Community Band plays a variety of music- country, orchestra, marches, classical, old hymns — “a large variety of music that is familiar to most.
“A big thing at this year’s community band concert will be having the opportunity to play for conductor Carolyn Howard and with three very talented high school seniors to play with us and several awards will be presented.”
Everyone who enjoys band music is invited to the Claudia Crosby Theater Monday night when musicians from all across the Southeast take center stage. No one will leave disappointed.
