The Pioneer Museum of Alabama will, once again present, “Thunder on the Three Notch,” which is based on two battles at Hobdy’s Bridge during the War of 1836. The battle site is within Pike County, said Barbara Tatom, museum director.

“Thunder on the Three Notch is both a reenactment of the battles of Hobdy’s Bridge and demonstrations of the skills that crafted the area that is now Troy and Pike County.

The battle at Hobdy’s Bridge will be a main attraction at “Thunder of the Three Notch,” as settlers and Indians fight for the land they both believe belongs to them. The battle for their “homeland” will be at 2 p.m. each day.

Tatom said “Thunder on the Three Notch” will include a large number of demonstrations of the craftsmanship that was prevalent in what is now Pike County and the surrounding area.

“Thunder on the Three Notch” will have demonstrations of blacksmithing, twining, woodworking, rope making, wood stove cooking, moccasin making, Creek clothes and other pioneer skills.

Wire Weaving demonstrations will be at the Twisted Tent at 10:30 a.m. 12:30 noon and 3 p.m.

Throughout the event, a circuit riding preacher will be in the log church, a teacher in the little wood schoolhouse, a blacksmith will be hammering a variety of items, Creek Indians and the militia will be in the demonstration area and traditional music will set the tone for stepping back in history.
