The Pike County Lady Bulldogs (7-20) saw their 2025 season come to an end in an elimination game against the Straughn Lady Tigers on Monday in the Class 4A, Area 4 Tournament in Opp.

After losing to Straughn 15-0 last Friday, PCHS rebounded to dominate New Brockton in an elimination game. On Monday, Pike County and Straughn faced off in a rematch in another elimination game. This time it was a much tougher win for the Lady Tigers.

After Pike County took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Straughn proceeded to reel off seven straight runs to take a 7-1 lead into the sixth inning. Pike County, though, wasn’t ready to pack it in. The Lady Dawgs scored four runs in the top of the sixth to cut the SHS lead to 7-5.

In the top of the seventh, facing two outs, Pike County’s Leah Dixon stole home to bring the game within one run. PCHS then had the tying run on third base only for Straughn to earn the game-winning out in the next at-bat.

Taylor Trawick had a big day for PCHS, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, one RBI, two runs and two stolen bases, while Dixon went 2-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases. Emmya Moultry also collected two hits and drove in two runs.

Dixon pitched two innings and gave up four hits and three earned runs. Abigail Griffin struck out a batter and gave up just one hit and one earned run in her four innings in the circle. Griffin also scored one run and stole two bases. Griffin and Paloma Munoz both earned four putouts on defense.
