Softball: Lady Dawgs remain alive in area tournament

The Pike county Lady Bulldogs (7-19) advanced to the second round of the Class 4A, Area 4 Tournament in Opp this weekend. 

Pike County opened up the double-elimination tournament with a 15-0 loss to Straughn in the first round. Straughn led 5-0 going into the fourth inning when the Lady Tigers scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth to secure the win. 

Next, Pike County faced New Brockton in an elimination game on April 25. PCHS led 6-2 going into the bottom of the fourth when the Lady Dawgs exploded to score six runs to seal the win and remain alive in the tournament. 

Emmya Moultry led PCHS at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, three stolen bases, three RBIs and two runs, while Leah Dixon went 2-for-3 with two runs. Morgan Gardner and Makayla Franklin both drove in two runs, while Kailia Beacham scored two runs. Dixon pitched four and 2/3 innings and gave up six hits and two earned runs. Taylor Trawick tallied six putouts with no fielding errors on defense.  

Straughn and Opp will play in the second round today at 1 p.m. Pike County will meet the loser of that game in an elimination game at 4 p.m. with the winner moving on to the championship round.
