The No. 15-ranked Troy Trojans (31-13, 14-7) continued their winning ways this weekend with a 2-1 Sun Belt Conference series win over the Texas State Bobcats (21-23, 9-12) at home.

The series win marks Troy’s seventh straight in the 2025 season. While Troy now sits in third place in the conference, the Trojans are the only team in the SBC to win every conference series they’ve played this season.

Troy opened up the series with a 3-2 win in extra innings on April 25. With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 11th inning, Troy’s Houston Markham was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive Steven Meier home for the walk-off win.

For Troy, Blake Cavill hit a two-run home run, while Jimmy Janicki collected two hits, including a double. Jay Dill (2-1) got the win on the mound, striking out six batters and giving up one hit and one earned run in four innings pitched. Noah Thigpen also struck out a pair of batters and gave up four hits and one earned run in five innings of work. Cavill tallied eight putouts and two double plays with no fielding errors on defense.

Troy clinched the series win with a 9-4 victory on April 26. Meier led Troy at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, while Cavill went 2-for-3 with another homer, one RBI and two runs. Harrison Bowman also drove in two runs, while Janicki and Sean Darnell each scored two runs and collected two hits.

Dothan native Grayson Stewart (5-2) picked up the win on the mound, striking out seven batters and giving up just two hits and no earned runs in seven innings pitched. Cavill totaled six putouts with no errors but Troy did have three fielding errors as a team.

While Troy earned yet another series win, game three closed out the series with a whimper as the Trojans were bested 14-3 in seven innings. Texas State was led by an 11-run fifth inning that propelled the Bobcats to victory.

Markham went 2-for-4 with a double and one run, while Janicki drove in two runs. Peyton Watts also went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run.

It was a long day for the Troy pitching staff as the Trojans threw seven arms at the Bobcats and Texas State hit four home runs as a team. Adam Falinksi (0-5) took the loss, giving up no hits and two earned runs. Luke Lyon pitched four innings and struck out six batters, while giving up three hits and three earned runs. Troy native Drew Nelson gave up two earned runs in one inning pitched. Former Pike Lib star Cason Eubanks earned one putout, one assist and a double play on defense.

Troy takes a break from conference play on April 29 for an in-state matchup with Jacksonville State at 6 p.m. at home. Troy then heads to Mobile to face off against rival South Alabama in a conference series May 2-4.
