CHHS finishes area runner-up, advances to 5A Regionals

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans (9-24) finished as Class 5A, Area 3 runner-up this weekend in the area tournament in Andalusia. 

The Lady Trojans opened up the double-elimination tournament with a 15-4 win over Greenville on April 25. Calleigh Compton led CHHS at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and one run. Jada Jones also stole two bases and scored three runs, while Katy Lynn Lee drove in two runs and scored two runs. Ava Stone and Janazia Cantlow scored two runs each. 

Cantlow pitched all five innings and struck out five batters, while giving up 11 hits and four earned runs. Compton tallied four putouts on defense. 

In the second round, CHHS lost 16-0 to host Andalusia. Keirstin Gamble earned the lone Lady Trojan hit in the loss. Lee struck out one batter and gave up six hits in one inning in the circle. 

In an elimination game, the Lady Trojans beat Greenville by a score of 20-10 to advance to the championship round. Cantlow went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs, while Stone went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs. Camille Lewis collected two hits and drove in two runs, while scoring two runs. 

Both Compton and Jones scored four runs each, while Lee drove in three runs. Lewis pitched all six innings and struck out five batters, while giving up 13 hits and no earned runs. Lee tallied six putouts, one assist and a double play on defense. 

In the Area Championship, Andalusia again won 15-0 to eliminate Charles Henderson and win the Area Championship. The Lady Bulldogs’ pitchers threw a no-hitter shutout in the win. Compton pitched two innings for CHHS and struck out two batters, while giving up six hits and six earned runs.

CHHS advances to the Class 5A Regional Tournament in Gulf Shores next week.
