- Submitted Photo Anna Grace Daly led the Pledge of Allegiance for the Alabama House of Representatives. Daly served as a page for Speaker Pro Tempore Chris Pringle.
Anna Grace Daly is right at home on horseback and riding the gently sloping hillside around her home in the Tarentum community in northeastern Pike County.
Recently Daly found herself almost as comfortably standing in the Alabama State House leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
Daly had the pleasure of serving as a page for Speaker Pro Tempore Chris Pringle of the House of Representatives.
Leading the Pledge of Allegiance on the last day of the House session was a “real honor” for Daly and for her school, Zion Chapel.
“They called my name and my school, and that was special,” Daly said. “I was nervous and excited. It was something I’ll always remember.”
Daly said she is thankful for the opportunity.
“I can never thank Rep. Pringle enough for the opportunity to have such an amazing experience,” she said. “I’ll always remember the time I had and the people I met.”
She also had the opportunity to share the experience with her best friend since childhood, Collins Hopkins, who attends school in Vestavia Hills.
“Collins and I are the same age and to the opportunity to get to serve as pages together and say in a hotel together for two nights was just … real special.
Daly reported to the Alabama State House on Tuesday, April 15, for the three-day experience.
Another part of her duties that she enjoyed was running errands for various representatives.
“Sometimes I took paperwork around and other times I ran errands for different representatives,” she said. “I was proud to do whatever I was asked to do… and I enjoyed everything.”
She also attended several receptions, including the Changing the Course Art Show and GUMBO.
The art show was an event for the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles to showcase art by current and former inmates.
“Their art was really good and I was proud to see what they had done and how doing art would help them when they got out of prison,” Anna Grace said. “The other reception was GUMBO. The acronym stands for Gulf United Metro Business Organization.
“That reception was about South Baldwin County and what they could do to grow … They had the best food at the reception.”
Highlights of the experience include meeting Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, meeting U.S. Sen. Katie Britt and having photos taken with two of the state’s most influential women.
“And, I liked touring the State Department of Archives and History,” Daly said. “It was one of my favorite things because I like history.”
Daly is the daughter of Chase and Ashley Daly and has a 10-year-old sister, Harper.
