On Thursday, Troy Women’s Basketball Coach Chanda Rigby announced the signing of former South Alabama player Rachel Leggett from the transfer portal.
Leggett is a Navarre, Fla., native and the sister of former Troy star Amber Leggett, who was an All-Sun Belt player for the Trojans in 2021-2022.
“Rachel joining our Trojan family is something to be excited about,” head coach Chanda Rigby said. “The energy and determination she brings daily is a needle-mover for us. The relentless effort she plays with, coupled with her athleticism, will amplify every effort that Troy women’s basketball makes to be national leaders in scoring, rebounding and winning.”
Rachel Leggett scored more than 1,000 points at Navarre High School, averaging 18.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 4.3 steals a senior. She also recorded 700 rebounds and 300 steals during her high school career. She was the Pensacola Area Player of the Year two years in a row and earned All-Area honors three times.
Leggett played her first three years of college at Troy rival South Alabama, averaging nine points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists and one steal per game during that span. Last season, Leggett averaged 13.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. She will come to Troy with one year of eligibility left.
Ironically enough, Leggett had her career-best game against Troy this past season, scoring 27 points. She also scored 26 against Troy the previous season. She tallied four double-doubles this past season. She joins a transfer portal class that already features former Florida-Atlantic guard Aniya Hubbard and Mississippi State guard Shakirah Edwards.
