Pike County Elementary School was put on lockdown this afternoon.
According to a statement from Pike County Schools, the 12:36 p.m. lockdown was in response to reports of an unidentified man on campus who had entered buildings.
The Brundidge Police Department and Pike County Sheriff’s Office responded and began to clear buildings. About halfway through the search, it was determined by video surveillance the man had crossed the campus and then left by jumping over a security fence. He did not enter any buildings.
The man was identified based on surveillance video and was later destined by law enforcement officers about two blocks from the school.
It was determined the man was not a threat. However, the man was placed under a no trespass order for all school properties by school administrators and may not be on the grounds of any Pike County Schools property in the future.
The school system stated the quick response from law enforcement was appreciated by the faculty and staff. The lockdown was lifted at 1:36 p.m.
