JCA brings unity through arts

This is the third year for a commUNITY pARTy in the City of Troy. And this special event is a community gift from the Johnson Center for the Arts and several partners including the City of Troy, Troy Bank and Trust, International Art Center’s ArtSpark, Troy Arts Council, CGI, KW Plastics, and more

Andrea Pack, Johnson Center for the Arts executive director, said the intent of the strange capitalization is to bring people together (UNITY) through the (ARTs).” 

A variety of art activities will take place during Troyfest only on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Also, the Johnson Center and ArtPlay will remain open during all Troyfest hours, until 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Free activities will include: Canvas board paintings at ArtSpark, collaborative painting with Troy Arts Council, ArtPlay design a dress, Theater and Puppet Play at Center Stagers, Sidewalk Chalk Art and Bubbles, Face painting, Windmill Art with CGI and Sensory trailer onsite at  Akilli’s house.”

Pack said this will be the last opportunity to come and see two exhibits: Embodied: Contemporary Takes on the Dress, and Troyfest Student Art exhibit sponsored by KW Plastics. Both will come down May 2.

Student Art Awards will take place on the main stage this year at 12 noon for the student art winners.

Come and bring your loved ones down W Walnut Street for a great time after visiting the artists on the Square, Pack said.
