High School Softball: Local teams close out regular season

A number of local high school softball teams closed out the 2025 regular season this week. 

The Ariton Lady Purple Cats (22-17-2) wrapped up with a 7-5 loss to Class 5A’s Eufaula on April 22. Nya Allen led AHS at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs, while Macileigh Bragg went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and one run. Madolyn Hudson also collected two hits and drove in four runs. Beth Dixon pitched all seven innings and struck out five batters, while giving up 10 hits and seven earned runs. 

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans (7-21) lost 7-1 to Class 7A’s Dothan on Tuesday. Janazia Cantlow went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, an RBI and a run, while she also pitched two innings and fanned a batter along with giving up four hits and two earned runs. Camille Lewis went 2-for-3 at the plate and pitched four innings, giving up no earned runs. 

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots (14-14) lost a heartbreaker to the Brantley Lady Bulldogs by a score of 4-2. PLAS led 2-1 going into the sixth inning when the Lady Dawgs scored three unanswered runs to secure the victory. 

Haylie Brown drove in one run and scored one run for Pike, while Alissa Barron also drove in one run and Sarah Strickland scored one run. Barron pitched all seven innings and struck out four batters, while giving up four hits and one earned runs. 

The Zion Chapel Lady Rebels (11-12) lost 8-0 to Wicksburg. Kaylee Hodge, Emily Rhodes, Landry Hataway and Aubrey Bassett earned one hit each. Sydney Boothe pitched three innings and fanned four batters, while giving up five hits and three earned runs. Bannin also struck out five batters, while giving up three hits and four earned runs in four innings in the circle. Hagen Sessions tallied six putouts and one assist with no errors on defense. 

Local schools will now set their sights to area tournaments, some of which begin on Friday.
