Brenda Peacock served the people of Pike County for four terms as circuit clerk. Now, the Needmore resident serves as a servant of the Lord and a longtime supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

“Oh, she’s the one who paints angels,” many will say.

After retiring as circuit clerk, Peacock did start paint painting angels with all the dollars and dimes raised going to St. Jude’s in support of the research to find a cure for childhood cancer.

However, she didn’t sell the wood-winged angels. She gladly accepted donations for the children at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

“In the community, we had a local child that had cancer that I did a little fundraising for,” Peacock said. “That did pretty good as a fundraiser, so I knew I needed to keep it up.”

If asked how many angels she has made and the amount donated, Peacock can’t answer because she doesn’t know.

No matter how much money is raised, she said, it’s not enough until no child dies from cancer.

Just knowing that every dollar, every dime, has the potential of curing a child and a little the closer to unlocking the cure for childhood cancer is what keeps the sewing machine humming.

Peacock’s painting and sewing skills could make it possible for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital to be a life-long mission for her.

So Peacock began making cloth rabbits. The soft animals could be hugged and loved by young children and, perhaps, bring childhood cancer just a little closer to a cure.

“The rabbits can be dressed any way,” Peacock said. “Some parents want their rabbit dressed in material with meaning, children’s baby clothes, a dad’s overalls, christening clothes or from a wedding dress.”

Peacock’s specially dressed rabbits are just one way she can support the efforts to find a cure for childhood cancer.

And, that research could possibly lead to other treatments and cures for other kinds of cancer.
