On April 16, Troy University Men’s Basketball announced the signing of incoming freshman guard Javen Colbert.

The Decatur, Texas., native is considered one of the top high school players in the State of Texas for the Class of 2025. Colbert is rated as the No. 39 overall player in the State of Texas by PrepHoops and the No. 9 overall point guard in the Class of 2025.

“I committed to Troy, not just for basketball purposes,” Colbert told The Messenger after committing in March. “Everyone made me feel welcomed, they have good academics and it’s a real tight culture there.”

Colbert scored more than 2,600 career points at Decatur High School, including 1,102 as a senior this past season. Colbert averaged an eye-popping 32.2 points as as senior, good for 28th in the entire country. He also averaged 5.3 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game and shot 51 percent from the field.

“We are super fired up to sign Javen Colbert here at Troy,” Troy Coach Scott Cross said. “Javen is going to be a big-time player for the Trojans. He was the leading scorer in the entire state of Texas and the 4A Player of the Year, which is very hard to do. Javen is one of the best pure shooters that I have ever been around.

“He is an OKG: ‘Our Kind of Guy’ and will fit in great with the players that we have already signed and are returning. Yes, he likes Waffle House too.”

Colbert joins a Class of 2025 that already includes Tony Montgomery and Emmanuel Clarton, who signed in November of 2024. The Trojans will be looking to add more names to the roster after the departures of starters Jackson Fields, Tayton Conerway, Marcus Rigsby Jr. and Myles Rigsby to the transfer portal.
