High School Track: Multiple local athletes earn top five finishes

The Charles Henderson, Pike County and Goshen track and field teams competed in recent track meets with a number of top five finishes for each team.

The Charles Henderson Trojans traveled to Wetumpka to compete in the Water Under The Bridge Track Meet on April 12 with the boys team coming in fifth place overall, while the girls earned a fourth place finish overall. As a whole, CHHS had 26 top 10 finishes and 22 top five finishes with two gold (first place), three silver (second place) and five bronze (third place) finishes. 

For the girls, the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relay teams finished with bronze and second place finishes, respectively. The 4×100-meter team consisted of Shai’Vonne Grace, Payton Ousley, Skylar Wright and Harmony Hubbard, while Athena Richards, Caylie Copeland, Segaliah Knox and Raeghan Worley made up the 4×400-meter team. 

Ousley also claimed a gold finish in the 100-meter dash and her time was good for a Top 10 overall time in the state so far this season. Ousley also earned the silver in the 200-meter dash. Skylar Wright claimed bronze in the 300-meter hurdles, while Knox took fourth in the 800-meter run and Worley earned fifth in the 800-meter run. 

Worley also earned a bronze finish in the high jump, while Jada Jones claimed fifth in the javelin toss and fourth in the shot put. Kellis Williams also earned the bronze in the shot put and Halley Hampton claimed the gold in the discus throw. Kaleyah Blair also earned a fifth place finish in the discus throw. 

The boys team’s 4×800-meter relay team claimed a fourth place finish, made up of Kaden Simmons, Caleb Richardson, Justin Jones and Tre Griffin. The 4×100-meter relay team also came in fifth and was made up of Jamal Downing, Kourtni Christian, Briece Baker and Javion Hall. The 4×400-meter relay team, consisting of Simmons, Christian, Downing and Khalil Gray, earned fourth place. 

Kam Christian earned the silver in the high jump, while Leray Triggs took the bronze. Zach Evans finished fourth overall in the 100-meter hurdles with Kam Johnson coming in fifth. Baker claimed sixth in the 100-meter dash, Downing came in fourth in the 400-meter dash, Simmons finished fourth in the 800-meter run and Baker earned sixth in the 200-meter dash. 

Pike County also competed in the Loachapoka Chenier Invite on April 12. The boys team finished fifth overall and the girls team came in eighth overall. 

For the boys, the 4×100-meter relay team earned a gold finish, the 4×400-meter relay team took the bronze and the 4×800-meter relay team came in fourth. Masaai Lucy also claimed third in the long jump and fourth in the 200-meter dash. 

Braylin Jackson earned the bronze in the 100-meter dash, while Antavious Redman earned the bronze in the 110-meter hurdles. Quentavious Carter also finished fifth in the triple jump, while Noah Cox came in fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and Jayln Freeman finished fifth in the 300-meter hurdles. 

For the girls, the 4×100-meter relay team came in fourth and the 4×400-meter relay team came in fifth. Monday Davenport finished fifth in the high jump and Laniya Wheeler came in fourth in the 100-meter dash. 

On April 15, the Goshen High School track team competed at the Enterprise Invitational with the girls team finishing 13th overall and the boys team earning an eighth place finish. 

For the girls, Kei’Andra Cummings came in fifth in the 100-meter dash, while Szemerick Andrews earned a sixth place finish in the boys 100-meter dash. Jerbauri Williams also claimed the silver in the 110-meter hurdles.
