The Troy Trojans (26-17) got back in the win column on Wednesday, April 9, with a 4-0 shutout win over the Alabama State Hornets (11-28) in Montgomery.

The win marked Troy’s fifth win in the last six games after losing four straight to end March. Troy led 2-0 going into the fifth inning when Makaley Boswell blasted a solo home run followed by another solo homer from Annie Orman in the sixth.

“It’s nice to get a win midweek here,” Troy Coach Eric Newell said. “Alabama State was tough tonight, and it looked like a different Alabama State team than the first time we played them in February. We put up 10 hits, but there were a couple things base-running wise that I think went their way. One or two of them I wasn’t a fan of, but a few of them they just made good plays, and that made the game closer. We took care of business – our pitchers pitched well and our defense defended well.”

Boswell went 2-for-4 at the plate with a homer, a double, one RBI and one run, while Taylor McKinney went 2-for-2 with a run. Reaghan Oney also went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and one run.

Alyssa Fircloth (11-5) got the win in the circle, striking out four batters and giving up just three hits and no runs in five innings. Mya Holt also struck out one and gave up no hits or runs in two innings pitched. Caiden Oliva tallied 13 putouts and one assist with no fielding errors.

For Alabama State, Ayana Frank went 2-for-3 at the plate. Kohana Pouson (6-10) struck out two batters and gave up 10 hits and four earned runs in seven innings in the circle.

Troy is back at home this weekend for a Sun Belt Conference series against Georgia Southern April 11-13. Game one plays at 6 p.m. on April 11, game two is at 4 p.m. on April 12 and the series finale will take place at noon on April 13.
