High School Softball: Pike Lib snaps Zion Chapel win streak; CHHS competes in Dothan tournament

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans (7-14) traveled to Dothan to compete in the Dothan Diamond Classic this week.
Charles Henderson split their games in the tournament on April 8, beating Providence Christian and falling to Slocomb. The Lady Trojans lost by a score of 7-2 to Slocomb in game one. Calleigh Compton went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, while Katy Lynn Lee struck out two batters and gave up 12 hits and seven earned runs with two strikeouts.
In game two, Charles Henderson rebounded to beat Providence by a score of 11-8. Jada Jones went 3-for-4 with a double and four runs, while Compton drove in three runs and Janazia Cantlow scored two runs. Camille Lewis also drove in three runs. Lewis pitched three and 1/3 innings and fanned two batters, while giving up no hits or earned runs.
The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots (11-11) earned an 8-2 win over the Zion Chapel Lady Rebels (9-10) in a Class 2A, Area 4 game on April 8. The win moved Pike Lib to .500 on the season and snapped Zion Chapel’s four-game winning streak. It also caused ZCHS to fall to under .500 on the season.
For Pike, Sarah Strickland went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run, while Haylie Brown scored two runs and Shelly Stephen droves in two runs with a double. CK Smith also earned two RBIs. Alissa Barron struck out three batters and gave up five hits and one earned run in seven innings pitched.
For Zion Chapel, Landry Hattaway and Audrey Bassett scored one run each. Riley Bannin struck out six batters and gave up five hits and two earned runs in six innings pitched. KB Holley tallied six putouts on defense.
The Pike County Lady Bulldogs (3-17) split a Class 4A, Area 4 doubleheader with the New Brockton Lady Gamecocks on April 8. In game one, the game was tied 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Pike County’s Arianna Straw hit a walk-off single that drove Abigail Griffin in for the winning run.
Hailey Griffin went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, while Taylor Trawick went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Straw also went 2-for-2, while Kailia Beacham went 2-for-3 with two runs. Trawick pitched four innings and struck out three batters, while Leah Dixon struck out one batter in three innings in the circle.
New Brockton took game two by a score of 6-3. The Lady Gamecocks scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take control of the game.
Dixon went 3-for-4 in game two with a double and a run, while Abigail Griffin went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Trawick pitched five and 1/3 innings and struck out five batters, while giving up eight hits and six earned runs. Dixon also struck out a pair of batters, while giving up no hits or runs in one inning.
