The Troy City Council heard the first reading of the proposed Redistricting Plan for the City of Troy at its April 8 meeting at Troy City Hall.

District maps are redrawn based on census population data. The redistricting plan, and new map, is based on the 2020 census. The council will hear the second reading of the proposed redistricting plan at the next council meeting, April 22. Following that second reading, a public hearing will be held for discussion about the plan and map. A vote will then be cast by the council on whether the redistricting plan should be adopted.

At previous council work sessions, the council and Mayor Jason Reeves said that once a redistricting plan is adopted the new map will be published publicly and cards will be sent out to every address in the city to declare what district they are in.

In other business, the council unanimously approved a resolution to authorize an amended agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) for a previous road project that was a part of the first Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (ATRIP). The amendment was needed so that ALDOT could close out its paperwork for the project.

The council will hold a public work session on the second floor of Troy City Hall on April 22 at 4 p.m. followed by a public hearing in the council chambers at Troy City Hall at 5 p.m.
