Dr. Jane Hopeful McIntosh-White has been visiting Brundidge since 1975 and was back in town on Sunday.

A birthday surprise for the 85-year-old birthday girl was planned by her daughter, the Island Girl “Mama Jay” Collins-Bean, who owns and operates the Island Girl Café in downtown Brundidge.

Mama Jay’s mother deserves the best and there is no doubt that her daughter would prepare an Island Girl feast in celebration of a life well lived and blessed with  a wonderful, loving and giving family and friends.

“This is where I want to be. Here in Brundidge, at the Island Girl Café with all these wonderful people here to share my birthday with me,” Dr. Jane Hopeful McIntosh-White’ said laughing.

There was no doubt about that among the large gathering of well-wishers.

“My mother is so precious to me,” Mama Jay sid. “I love her. She loves me and we both love our families and friends. I am blessed to have my mother enjoying life and the many blessings in her life.”

For both mother and daughter, being in Brundidge is a blessing.

“Everyone is so good to us and we love them all and this wonderful town,” Mama Jay said laughing. “We both are proud to be in a town so welcoming … and people who like ‘island’ food.”

Mama Jay said her mama wanted to celebrate her 85th birthday with a plate filled with wings and she planned to try all of her favorites… jerk, sweet chili, lemon pepper and ranch.

“This was the best birthday ever,” Dr. Jane said. “I’m already looking forward to next year and the next and the next … and a platter filled with ribs.”
