On April 8, a jury in Pike County convicted Charles Lamont Boyd Jr., of Troy, of First Degree Rape of his own niece.
Boyd was convicted after a two-day trial in Pike County. The State of Alabama was represented by Assistant District Attorney Ternisha Jones in the case. According to evidence and testimony given at the trial, Boyd arrived at the home of his niece in October 2023. While at the home, Boyd is alleged to have asked to use the restroom and then he attacked his niece in her mother’s bedroom and raped her.
“I am so thankful for the courage of our victim to tell her friend about this attack and then to go through this entire process of being interviewed, working with law enforcement and now testifying at trial,” ADA Jones said. “Thanks to her standing up and telling the truth about what happened to her on that day in October 2023, a dangerous man will now go to prison.”
Boyd will remain in custody of Pike County Jail pending sentencing. Sentencing is scheduled for June 19.
“I am so grateful for the courage and bravery of our victim to navigate this process and take the witness stand to testify against her uncle,” 12th Judicial Circuit District Attorney James Tarbox said. “I appreciate the work of ADA Jones and her dedication to seek justice on behalf of our victim. Defendant Boyd is a convicted felon who has previously been convicted of Manslaughter in another county. I hope that the court will now impose a sentence in this case that will keep him behind bars where he belongs.”
The Pike County Sheriff’s Office and Pike Regional Child Advocacy Center assisted on the case.
