Pike County athletes shine at Covington County Track Meet

The Pike County High School track and field team traveled to Andalusia to compete in the Covington County Schools Track Meet on April 4.
A total of 20 girls teams competed and 19 boys teams. The PCHS boys team finished second overall at the meet, while the girls finished fourth overall. Pike County had a total of 19 top five finishes with four gold (first place) finishes, three silver (second place) finishes and five bronze (third place) finishes.
For the girls team, the 4×100-meter relay team earned a first place finish, while the 4×400-meter relay team came in third. Monday Davenport claimed a fifth place finish in the high jump, while Kaidyn Lee came in third in the triple jump. Brooklyn Jones claimed the silver in the shot put, while D’Yana Knox earned a bronze finish in the 100-meter hurdles. Kaylin Jackson took the silver in the 100-meter dash, while Laniya Wheeler earned a bronze finish in the 200-meter dash and fourth place finish in the 100-meter dash.
For the boys, the 4×100-meter relay team came in first, the 4×400-meter relay team came in second and the 4×800-meter relay team came in fourth. Khalil Foster claimed a fifth place finish in the high jump, fourth in the long jump and took the gold in the triple jump.
Braylin Jackson also earned the gold in the 100-meter dash, while Quentavious Carter finished fifth in the triple jump, Jaylyn Freeman earned fifth in the 110-meter hurdles and Durell Taunton claimed bronze in the 800-meter run.
