High School Baseball: Charles Henderson wins ninth straight

The Charles Henderson Trojans (18-10) earned their ninth straight win on the baseball diamond on April 5 with a dominant 15-5 victory over Class 7A’s Prattville Lions.
For CHHS, Kellen Stewart hit a three-run home run in the win, while Wes Templin went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, four RBIs and two runs. Chase Vaznaian also went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. Cole Pugh scored three runs, while Clay Johnson went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Ben Cochran also hit a triple.
Trenton Bryan struck out four batters and gave up four hits and four earned runs in four innings pitched, while Clay Johnson struck out two and gave up no hits or runs in one inning on the mound.
The Ariton Purple Cats (20-6) suffered a 3-2 loss to Andalusia on April 4. Ariton trailed 3-1 going into the sixth inning and the Cats scored one run to come within one run of tying but couldn’t get back into scoring position.
Bryce Odom hit a triple in the loss, while Easton Kilpatrick and Hayes Hammock scored one run each. Kilpatrick also struck out five batters and gave up two hits and no earned runs in five innings on the mound.
For Andalusia, Landen Butler went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Asher Bentley and Grover Wells scored one run each. Riley Cravey pitched all seven innings and fanned a pair of batters along with giving up six hits and two earned runs.
The Zion Chapel Rebels (13-8) completed a Class 2A, Area 3 series sweep over the Goshen Eagles (6-12) with a 13-2 win on April 4.
For ZCHS, Brodie Stinson went 2-for-3 with a run, while John Foster Hamm scored two runs. Brady Flowers scored three runs and stole three bases. Gunner Jacobs scored two runs, while Dylan Davis, Kevan Brown, Trent Elrod and Weston Watson each hit a double. Davis pitched five innings and struck out eight batters, while giving up five hits and two earned runs.
For Goshen, Layton Burgans went 2-for-3 with a double, while Tyler McLendon and JD Burney scored one run each. McLendon pitched three innings and struck out four batters, while giving up five hits and six earned runs. Grant Taylor earned three putouts and two assists with no fielding errors on defense.
