- Students work in a greenhouse to prepare plants for the school’s annual plant sale.
Most times, when someone experiences something surprising and joyful, he or she responds with “Hot Dog!
But, over at the Agriscience Academy in Goshen, the byword this week “is Hot Pepper!”
And, hot peppers are just one of many plants available at the Pike County Schools Agriscience Academy’s Annual Spring Plant Sale.
The plant sale got off to a fast start on Monday and will continue through Friday between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Christian Stanley, program facilitator and agriculture teacher at the Pike County Agriscience Academy, said the plants available were grown by academy students from seeds, plugs or cuttings.
“The students have been responsible for all stages of growth with each plant in the greenhouse setting,” Stanley said.
Plants that will be available at the Ag Academy’s annual spring plant sale include, but not limited to, Boston Ferns, Spider Plants, Petunias, Begonias, Dragon Red Wings, Macho Ferns, Impatiens, Lantana, Petunias, Pepper, Red Cherry Tomatoes, Beefsteak Tomatoes, Roma Tomatoes, Bell Pepper, Jalapeno Pepper Sweet Bananas, Pepper Tabasco, cucumbers, squash, watermelon, cantaloupe and mix-match packs.
According to the old saying, the early bird gets the worm. So, Stanley said those, who are looking for a special plant or plants, are encouraged to come early.
“We’ll have plants to sell until they are all gone,” he said. “We invite everyone to come and see what is growing in the greenhouses at the Agriscience Academy in Goshen.”
