High School Baseball: Charles Henderson, Pike Lib pick up Thursday wins

The Charles Henderson Trojans and Pike Liberal Arts Patriots earned wins on Thursday, March 3. 

The Trojans (17-10) earned a 16-0 win over the Greenville Tigers in a Class 5A, Area 3 game on April 2. Clay Johnson led CHHS at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and one run. Chase Vaznaian, Wilson Jones, Wes Templin, Cole Pugh and Kellen Stewart each scored two runs. Will Watkins pitched two innings and fanned three batters, while giving up one hit and no earned runs. Wilson Jones also totaled three putouts with no errors. 

Charles Henderson also earned a 6-0 win over Greenville on April 3. Cole Pugh went 2-for-2 with a double, three stolen bases, two RBIs and two runs. Cooper Johnson scored two runs and hit a double. Dylan Westberg pitched two innings and fanned five batters, while giving up no hits or runs. 

The Patriots (12-13) earned a 7-1 win over Houston Academy in non-area contest. Pike was led by Pruitt Vaughan going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run, while Jackson Bowen went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and one run. Cole Garrott scored two runs and Garrett Whitaker earned two hits and an RBI. Luke Barron earned an RBI double and scored one run. Kade Brookins pitched five innings and struck out six batters, while giving up one hit and one earned run.
Also on Thursday, the Zion Chapel Rebels (12-8) earned a 14-6 win over the Goshen Eagles (6-11). Zion Chapel led 7-4 going into the sixth inning when the Rebels scored seven runs in the next two innings to seal the win. 

John Foster Hamm went 2-for-4 at the plate for ZCHS with one RBI and one run, while Tyler Bass went 2-for-4 with one double, one RBI and two runs. Trent Elrod went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs. Dylan Davis and Kevan Brown scored two runs each. Brady Flowers pitched six and 1/3 innings, striking out four batters and giving up seven hits and four earned runs. 

For Goshen, Tyler McLendon went 2-for-4 with a triple, one RBI and one run. Layton Burgans also went 2-for-4 with a run. Grant Taylor pitched five innings and fanned nine batters, while giving up 11 hits and five earned runs. 

The Pike County Bulldogs were swept in two games against Opp, falling 20-1 in game one and 16-0 in game two.
