McKinney blasts three homers as Troy sweeps West Georgia

The Troy Trojans (23-16) hit the road on April 2 and swept their way to a non-conference series win over the West Georgia Wolves (9-24) on the road.
Troy dominated game one by a score of 9-2. The Trojans were walked eight times in the win, almost equalling their nine hits on the day. Makaley Boswell led Troy at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs, while McKinnon Howard went 2-for-4 with two runs. Taylor McKinney also hit a two-run home run.
Savannah Money (2-4) got the win in the circle, striking out four batters and giving up five hits and two earned runs in four innings pitched. Alyssa Faircloth also struck out six, while giving up just one hit and no runs in three innings pitched. The Trojan defense was also on fire, suffering just one fielding error with five Trojans registering double plays. Caiden Oliva earned five putouts and two double plays with no errors. Boswell also earned two double plays.
Troy followed that up with a resounding 14-2 win in game two. This time around, it was Troy’s bats that were on fire. The Trojans earned 12 hits in 27 at bats with a total of three home runs. McKinney went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of dingers, six RBIs and three runs. McKinney hit a total of three home runs in the two wins over West Georgia.
Cassidy Boltz also went 3-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run, while Howard went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. Mya Holt hit a triple and Annie Orman also hit a home run, while Boswell and Oliva scored two runs each. Orman also scored three runs.
Holt (9-3) was the winning pitcher, giving up two hits and one earned run in three innings in the circle. Kate Peters also struck out three and gave up no hits or runs in two innings pitched. Oliva tallied eight putouts and a double play with no errors, while Boswell totaled two putouts, four assists and a double play with no errors.
Troy returns to conference play this weekend with a home Sun Belt series against Louisiana April 4-6.
