- Emani Jenkins and the Troy Trojans will play in the WNIT Championship on April 5.
The Troy Trojans (24-13) will play for a postseason championship for the first time in school history after they defeated the Illinois State Redbirds (24-13) in the WNIT Fab 4 on Wednesday, April 2.
In a game that saw 16 lead changes, Troy hung on to a small 98-96 lead with 12.7 seconds left. Illinois State drove down the court looking to tie the score with a jumper, but Troy’s Shaulana Wagner stole the ball and was immediately fouled with just four seconds left. The win lifts Troy to its first ever WNIT Championship Game and first appearance in any postseason tournament championship in the history of the women’s team.
Troy shot 46 percent from the field, while Illinois State shot an eye-popping 63 percent. The Trojans, though, were dominant on the boards, out-rebounding the Redbird 38-29 and outscoring Illinois State 27-4 in second chance points. Troy also forced 15 turnovers and scored 18 points off turnovers, while Troy turned it over just seven times.
