High School Softball: Zion Chapel beats Dale County in walk-off fashion

The Zion Chapel Lady Rebels (8-9) earned an exciting 5-4 win over Dale County on Tuesday, April 1. 

The Lady Rebs trailed 4-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Facing two outs, Shea Wambles drilled an RBI triple into left field that drove Landry Hataway and Emily Rhodes home to tie the score. In the next at bat, Sydney Boothe blasted a walk-off double that drove Wambles in for the winning run. 

Wambles led ZCHS at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs, while Hataway went 2-for-2 with two runs. Riley Bannin pitched three innings and struck out three batters, while giving up one hit and no earned runs. 

Boothe also pitched four innings and fanned three batters along with giving up no hits or earned runs. KB Holley tallied four putouts and one double play with no fielding errors, while Wambles and Hagen Sessions earned four putouts and one assist each. 

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots (10-10) fell to .500 on the season with a tough 12-10 loss to Lee-Scott Academy on Tuesday. It was Pike’s second loss to Lee-Scott in the past three games. Pike led 10-8 going into the sixth inning but Lee-Scott rallied to score four unanswered runs in the next two innings to earn the win. 

Camryn Brown went 2-for-4 at the plate for Pike with a home run, four RBIs and two runs. The homer was her fifth in the last two weeks. Julianne Meyer went 2-for-4 with two runs, while Yaley McLendon hit a double. Alissa Barron and Mary Holland Stephens scored two runs each. Barron pitched six innings and gave up 11 hits and seven earned runs, while McLendon gave up no hits or runs in one inning pitched. 

The Pike County Lady Bulldogs (2-15) also fell 8-0 in a shutout loss to Straughn on Tuesday. Abigail Griffin went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double for PCHS, while Ma’Kayla Franklin went 2-for-3. Taylor Trawick pitched five and 1/3 innings and fanned one batter along with giving up nine hits and six earned runs. Hailey Griffin earned three putouts and one double play with no errors on defense.
