Troy advances to WNIT Fab 4 for second straight year

The Troy Trojans (23-13) are headed to the WNIT Fab 4 once again after defeating the North Dakota State Bison (21-12) by a score of 97-88 in overtime of the Great 8 on the road on Monday night.
It was the second straight game with the Trojans playing into overtime and will send Troy back to the Fab 4 of the WNIT for the second consecutive season, as well. It was a slugfest between the two sides for the entirety of regulation but overtime was all Troy.
After the Bison hit a three-pointer to open the overtime period, Troy proceeded to go on a 10-0 run and outscored North Dakota State 16-7 in the overtime period. Prior to overtime, there were seven ties in the game and 15 lead changes.
Troy trailed 21-20 going into the second quarter but led 46-41 going into halftime. North Dakota State led 62-61 going into the fourth quarter but with just 18 seconds remaining, Briana Peguero hit a pair of free throws to put the Trojans up 81-78. North Dakota State answered, however, with a Molly Lenz three-pointer with 18 seconds left that sent the game into overtime.
Troy shot 43 percent from the field and North Dakota State shot 41 percent, while the Trojans won the rebound battle 56-37. Troy also outscored the Bison 17-8 in second chance points but were outscored 50-40 in the paint. Both teams forced 11 turnovers but Troy turned those turnovers into 17 points compared to 11 points off turnovers for the Bison.
Peguero led Troy with 22 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Shaulana Wagner tallied 18 points, four assists and three rebounds. Zay Dyer added 14 points and nine rebounds, while Brianna Jackson also totaled 14 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks. Fortuna Ngnawo added 12 points, 13 rebounds and two assists.
Troy will play Illinois State in the Fab 4 on April 2 on the road at 6:30 p.m.
