A number of local youth from the Pike County area won awards at the State Livestock Show in Montgomery on March 14.
The Alabama Farmers Federation and Alfa Insurance sponsors the annual contest held in Montgomery during the Southeastern Livestock Exposition. LouLou Thompson of Pike County won fourth overall in the Junior Livestock Expo Breeding Bull Show. Thompson also won Grand Championship in the Intermediate Showmanship Contest. Pike County’s Greer Jones also took third in Intermediate Showmanship.
Pike County’s Braxton Jordan also won the AOB (All Other Breeds) British Championship in the Junior Livestock Expo Beef Market Show. Pike County’s MJ Flowers exhibited the champion Charolais heifer during the Beef Breeding Heifer Show.
Pike County’s Annabelle Wesley received the Louise Wilson Showmanship Scholarship for the Alabama CattleWomen’s Association (ACWA). Wesley also earned reserve champion in the Senior Showmanship Contest. Pike County’s Abigail Leatherwood was the reserve champion for her Simmental heifer during the Beef Breeding Heifer Show.
