High School Baseball: CHHS beats Reeltown, Pike Lib tops Goshen

A number of area high school teams were on the baseball diamond on March 27, including both the Charles Henderson Trojans ands Pike Liberal Arts Patriots picking up wins.
The Pike Lib Patriots (10-11) survived a close contest with the Goshen Eagles (5-9) to take a 2-1 win in a Class 2A, Area 3 contest. For Pike, Jackson Bowen went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, while Dawson Bradford and Pruitt Vaughan scored one run each. Garrett Whitaker pitched five innings and struck out five batters, while giving up four hits and one earned run. Cole Garrott also pitched two innings and struck out three along with giving up two hits and no earned runs.
For Goshen, Tyler McLendon scored the lone Eagle run, while he also tallied eight putouts and two assists on defense. Grant Taylor pitched all seven innings and struck out seven batters, while giving up five hits and no earned runs.
The Charles Henderson Trojans (12-10) also picked up a close 4-3 win over Reeltown. Cooper Johnson scored one run and stole three bases for the Trojans, while Wes Templin scored one run and Clay Johnson scored one run with two stolen bases. Chase Vaznaian pitched four innings and fanned three batters, while giving up seven hits and one earned run. Will Watkins gave up one hit and no earned runs in three innings of work. Cole Pugh also totaled five putouts, while Vaznaian tallied three putouts, two assists and one double play with no fielding errors.
The Ariton Purple Cats (18-5) continued play at the Gulf Shores Baseball Tournament this week. On March 26, the Purple Cats beat Gibson County by a score of 12-1. Bryce Odom went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and two runs, while Pierce Gill went 3-for-3 with two runs. Hayes Hammock and Brodie Lowery scored two runs each. Easton Kilpatrick struck out three batters and gave up four hits and no earned runs in four innings on the mound.
Ariton then dropped a 7-6 loss to Brookland on March 27. Lowery went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while Aven Cook went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Wells Ganey also scored one run and earned three RBIs. Gill went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Reiley Snellgrove pitched three and 1/3 innings and fanned two batters along with giving up four hits and one earned run. Lowery gave up one hit and no earned runs with three strikeouts in one and 2/3 innings pitched.
