The Troy City Council held a regularly scheduled meeting on March 25 and approved an agreement with the Alabama Dept. of Transportation (ALDOT) for an upcoming road improvement project.

Recently, the City of Troy received funding as a part of the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (ATRIP) II of up to $2 million with no match from the city for the addition of right turn lanes at the intersection of Highway 231 and George Wallace Drive and intersection of Highway 231 and Trojan Parkway. These upgrades would provide dedicated right turn lanes for those intersections and the funding would also provide for the installation of new stop lights, which would be compatible for a potential future six-lane expansion of Highway 231, which ALDOT hopes to tackle in the future. The agreement the council approved with ALDOT was simply to begin the project for the use of the ATRIP II funding.

The council also approved the purchase of two vehicles for Troy Parks and Recreation. These vehicles include a 1/2 ton pickup and a 3/4 ton pickup at the cost of $49,600 and $51,690. David-Scott-Lee Chevrolet of Troy had the low bid for both vehicles.

The council additionally approved the purchase of eight more vehicles for the Troy Police Department. These vehicles include four Chevrolet Silverados and four Chevrolet Tahoes. David-Scott-Lee of Troy once again provided the low bids. The cost for the Silverados will be $49,835 each and the cost of the Tahoes will be $60,495 each. The vehicles that will be purchased for both the recreation department and police department were budgeted items and will be replacing older, high mileage vehicles that were surplussed and will be sold at auction.

The council also approved the surplus of a number of items and property from the city, which will be either auctioned at the upcoming Cattleman’s Auction or sold elsewhere.

“Whatever we do with it, we will make sure we get the best return for the taxpayers,” Troy Mayor Jason Reeves said.

All approved items were approved 4-0. Councilperson Stephanie Baker was unable to attend the meeting due to being out of town. The next city council meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on April 8 at Troy City Hall with a public work session at 4 p.m.
