High School Baseball: CHHS beats Luverne, PLAS falls to Trinity

A number of area highs school baseball teams were in action on Tuesday, March 25, including the Charles Henderson Trojans (11-10) picking up a 15-5 win over the Luverne Tigers.
The win puts the Trojans back over .500 on the season as Kellen Stewart had a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three doubles, an RBI and two runs for the Trojans. Jam Burney and Damien Williams scored two runs each, while Trenton Bryan earned three runs.
Blake Lowery was the winning pitcher, striking out four batters and giving up one hit and one earned run in two innings on the mound. Cole Pugh also pitched two innings and fanned three batters along with giving up four hits and three earned runs. Dylan Westberg pitched two innings and struck out a batter, while giving up no hits or earned runs. Wilson Jones tallied seven putouts and three assists with zero fielding errors.
The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots (9-11) lost by a score of 8-4 agains Trinity on the road Tuesday. Garrett Whitaker had a big day, going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run, while Dawson Bradford and Jackson Bowen scored one run each. Braden Shirley pitched four innings and struck out three batters, while giving up six hits and three earned runs. Bradford also pitched two innings and gave up two hits and one earned runs.
The Goshen Eagles (5-8) also suffered a 17-7 loss to Highland Home on March 25. Tyler McLendon scored two runs for the Eagles, while JD Burney, Grant Taylor, Cody Boyett and Layton Burgans scored one run each.
Boyett pitched two innings and struck out one batter, while giving up one hit and seven earned runs. Boyett also tallied three putouts and one double play with no errors. Logan Linton pitched two innings and struck out a pair of batters, while giving up two hits and three earned runs.
The Zion Chapel Rebels (10-8) split a doubleheader on March 25. In game one, Zion Chapel lost 11-1 to Brantley. Brodie Stinson went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run and two stolen bases, while Brady Flowers struck out one batter in three and 1/3 innings pitched along with giving up nine hits and six earned runs.
Next, Zion Chapel rebounded to top Florala by a score of 7-4. Dylan Davis had a big game on offense and defense for ZCHS. He went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and one RBI, while striking out seven batters and giving up four hits and one earned run in four innings on the mound. Stinson also scored two runs and Joseph LeGear scored three runs. John Foster Hamm pitched three innings and fanned four batters, while giving up five hits and three earned runs.
The New Brockton Gamecocks (8-8) beat Excel 5-4 on March 25. Gavin Hand went 2-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and a run, while James Downing went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Jacob Fisher pitched seven innings and struck out 10 batters, while giving up five hits and one earned run.
New Brockton then lost to Eufaula by a score of 4-3. Braydn Crumpler, Cooper Medley and Payton McLaughlin scored one run each. Griffin Wood pitched seven innings and struck out three, while giving up five hits and two earned runs.
