On March 9, the Brundidge Methodist Church launched its GriefShare program for anyone in the community looking for support.
GreifShare Facilitator Lynn Sutton said the faith-based program is for anyone that is in need for grief support after the loss of a loved one or any significant event that has caused grief in their lives.
“It’s open to men and women, anyone can come,” Sutton emphasized. “The program is structured as a two-hour program every Sunday. When the participants come in, we have a little meet-and-greet, an icebreaker, and once we’re all aquatinted and everyone is comfortable, we watch a faith-based video and once we watch the video we talk about it and have a workbook that is provided that we work through.”
The cost for the program is $20 but there are options for those that may not be able to afford the cost.
“We have a scholarship program that will cover the cost of the workbook,” Sutton said. “We don’t want anyone not to come because they can’t afford to.”
While the program started on March 9, Sutton said that anyone can step in and join the program at any time.
Sutton said the need for the program came to a head after the passing of a number of prominent figures in the Brundidge Methodist Church community.
“We’ve had a lot of significant loss within our church family,” she emphasized. “Recently, we lost Chip (Wallace) and Heather (Minton) and her son and there have been other various significant losses in our church. We just had a lot of grief and loss the last couple of years and we just felt like this was something we needed and that we needed to make it available for those that want to participate.”
