Ariton Baseball, Softball compete in tournament action

Both the Ariton Purple Cats baseball team and the Lady Cats softball team were in action this week in road tournaments. 

The Purple Cats (17-4) traveled to Gulf Shores to compete in the Gulf Shores Baseball Tournament, going 2-0 in tournament action on March 25. Ariton beat the Normal West Wildcats in game one by a score of 9-2. Brodie Lowery went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs, while Austin Evans struck out four batters and gave up five hits and two earned runs in seven innings pitched. 

In game two, Ariton topped the West Blockton Tigers by a score of 7-2. Wells Ganey went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs, while Easton Kilpatrick went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and one run. Hayes Hammock pitched six innings and fanned nine batters, while giving up four hits and two earned runs on the mound. 

The Ariton Lady Cats (14-9-2) have gone 2-1-1 at the Spring Garden Spring Fling Tournament. In game one, Ariton battled to an 8-8 tie with the Appalachian Eagles on March 24. Beth Dixon went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run, while Macileigh Bragg went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Brianna Achaua also went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run, while Madolyn Hudson went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run. Dixon pitched all three innings and struck out three batters, while giving up nine hits and eight earned runs. 

Ariton followed that up with a 7-0 loss to the Ider Hornets later on March 24. Dixon and Faircloth each earned one hit, the only hits of the game for AHS. Faircloth pitched three and 2/3 innings and gave up nine hits and two earned runs. 

Ariton followed that up by going 2-0 on March 25. Ariton beat the host Spring Garden Panthers by a score of 3-0 in game one. Laney Deloney hit a double and earned an RBI, while Achaua, Audrey Ezell and Maddie Davis scored one run each. Dixon pitched five innings and gave up one hit and no earned runs with four strikeouts in the circle. 

Next, the Lady Cats topped Fyffe by a score of 9-2. Faircloth hit a double with four RBIs and one run, while Nya Allen and Bragg scored two runs each. Faircloth pitched all four innings and struck out five batters along with giving up four hits and two earned runs.
