- The Troy women will host North Texas in the WNIT Super 16 on March 27.
It’ll be a quick turnaround for the Troy Trojans (21-13) as they host the North Texas Mean Green (25-8) in the WNIT Super 16 on Thursday at Trojan Arena.
Troy is coming off a dominant second half and an 85-72 win over Chattanooga on Monday in the second round of the tournament, while North Texas defeated UT-Arlington 78-67 in the second round.
Troy and North Texas have played a total of 14 times with the Trojans holding a 4-10 record against the Green. The last time the two sides played was in 2013, an 86-69 Troy win on Feb. 16, 2013. The next season, North Texas joined Conference-USA.
North Texas is coming off a solid season that saw the Green fall to South Florida in the AAC Tournament Semifinals. During the regular season, North Texas lost to No. 25 Oregon but also earned a win over Houston.
“It’s going to be a very tough North Texas team, and we are going to need everybody there,” Troy Coach Chanda Rigby said. “We need to get by this game in order to give ourselves a chance at winning a national title.”
Troy’s Zay Dyer now sits at 350 total rebounds this season, four shy of tying the single season Troy Division I record, which is held by Felmas Koranga. Shaulana Wagner has also entered the top five of single season assists in Troy history with 171 this year.
Troy and North Texas will play at 6 p.m. on March 27 at Trojan Arena.
