The Pike County Salvation Army’s annual Empty Bowls fundraiser is set for 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, at Bush Memorial Baptist Church on George Wallace Drive in Troy.

Donna Kidd, Pike County Salvation Army Service Center director, said the Empty Bowls Luncheon raises dollars to help feed those in need and is, also, a time for fellowship, good music and an opportunity to select an empty, handmade clay bowl, as a reminder of the millions around the world who go to bed hungry every night.

Kidd said Empty Bowls is made possible each year by restaurants that donate soups and also, individuals who also understand that, even in the year 2025, there are those, right here in Pike County in need.

Ed Whatley will be the featured entertainment for the Pike County Empty Bowl Luncheon and that alone is worth the $20 ticket.

“We’ll have silent bid items including autographed basketballs by the men and women’s coaches at Troy University, Auburn and the University of Tennessee,” Kidd said. “And, we expect to have more great auction item by April 4.

The silent auction will also include handmade items by Don Dickert, Forrest Lee, artwork by local artist with more to come.
