Repair work on the  Pike County School System’s Center for Advanced Academics and Accelerated Learning (CA3L) building will begin soon, but it may be some time before the building is reopened for classes.

The building suffered substantial damage to the roof during a March 15 EF2 tornado that passed through Troy. Pike County Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Bazzell said about a quarter of the west-side roof, including the decking, was blown off by the tornado. The damage resulted in significant flooding and water damage in the building. In addition, Bazzell said the building and grounds suffered additional damage which included walkways, awnings, heating and cooling units and fencing.

Bazzell said the roof was patched up within hours of the tornado to prevent further water damage and Serve Pro started to clean up the morning after the damage. Bazzell said the school system had met with adjusters and the insurance company. He said contractors had been contacted to begin repair work.

He said the school system would look to see where work stood in about three weeks and then check on the progress in two week intervals. He said it may be some time before the building is ready for students and faculty to return.
