Troy University to hold Honors Convocation April 21

Troy University will hold its 2025 Honors Convocation on Monday, April 21, at Crosby Theater on the campus of Troy University. 

Dr. Alvin Diamond will be delivering the Honors Convocation Address at this year’s ceremony. Diamond is the recipient of the Wallace D. Malone Jr. Distinguished Faculty Award and is a professor of biology at Troy University. Diamond has served Troy University for 36 years and has made important contributions to teaching, research and institutional growth. 

Diamond was instrumental in the restoration of the Troy University Arboretum, the expansion of the Troy University Herbarium and advancements in ecological research that have garnered national recognition, including a National Science Foundation grant and recent honors from the Alabama Forestry Commission. He was also selected by NASA to receive the “Moon Tree” seedling that flew around the moon on the 2022 NASA’s Artemis I mission. 

Troy University’s Honors Convocation is a signature academic event at Troy University and is dedicated to “celebrating excellence, achievement and service across the university community.” The ceremony recognizes students who have earned awards for outstanding scholarship and service, presented by the university departments and academic organizations. 

Following these honors, students inducted into honors societies over the past academic year will also be acknowledged for their dedication to scholarly achievement. Faculty and staff will also be honored for “exceptional contributions to advancing Troy University’s mission of academic excellence.”

The Honors Convocation will be held at 2:30 p.m. on April 21 at Crosby Theater.
