Troy blows past Chattanooga in WNIT second round

- Troy's Zay Dyer earned a double-double as the Trojans beat Chattanooga in the WNIT.
On Monday night, the Troy Trojans (21-13) defeated the Chattanooga Mocs (17-15) by a score of 85-72 in the second round of the WNIT.
Chattanooga actually controlled the game for much of the first half but Troy managed to get hot late in the second quarter. With 20 seconds let in the first half, Shaulana Wagner hit a three-pointer to give Troy a 35-34 lead. The Mocs, though, answered right back with a three of their own at the buzzer to take a 37-35 lead into halftime.
The two sides traded leads a number of times early in the third quarter until Troy took control by going on a 13-2 run to close the period and take a 63-61 lead into the fourth quarter. Troy went on an 8-0 run in the fourth and led by as many 16 points in the final frame.
Troy shot 50 percent from the field and held Chattanooga to 44.1 percent shooting, while the Trojans also shot 40 percent from three-point land. The nation’s rebound leaders again dominated the boards, out-rebounding Chattanooga 43-30. Troy outscored the Mocs 15-2 in second chance points, 36-24 in the paint and Troy’s bench outscored Chattanooga’s 26-6. The Trojans also forced 15 turnovers and scored 20 points off turnovers.
Zay Dyer earned her 16th double-double of the season with 18 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one block. She’s now just four rebounds shy of setting the Troy single season record. Fortuna Ngnawo added 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Ashley Baez chipped in with 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and four steals, while Shaulana Wagner tallied 11 points, four rebounds and eight assists. Brianna Jackson added 11 points, six rebounds and two blocks.
Troy faces the winner of UT-Arlington vs. North Texas in the Super 16 later this week.
