On Monday, Troy senior guard Tayton Conerway was originally declared as entering the draft portal by the agency that represents him in NIL but later stated he was entering the NBA Draft.
While Conerway was a senior this season, he came to Troy from the junior college (JUCO) ranks and because of a recent court and NCAA decision, will receive another year of eligibility. In Conerway’s announcement he said that he was entering the NBA Draft while also maintaining his college eligibility, meaning that he would need to remove himself from the draft prior to June 15 to maintain his eligibility. The NBA Draft takes place on June 25.
Conerway earned both All-Sun Belt honors and was named Sun Belt Player of the Year this season after averaging 14.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.9 steals per game. Conerway broke Troy’s single season steals record. For his Troy career, Conerway averaged 13 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
Conerway was the first Troy player to win conference player of the year since the Trojans joined the Sun Belt and he was also named Sun Belt Sixth Man of the Year last season. Before coming to Troy, Conerway was the Texas JUCO Player of the Year and JUCO All-American at Ranger College. The 6-foot-3-inch, Burleson, Texas, native will have one year of eligibility left.
Conerway is the second Trojan to enter the transfer portal following Troy’s first round exit from the NCAA Tournament last week.
