Some of the Troy Parks and Recreation facilities that have been closed since a tornado hit Troy last weekend have reopened.
According to Troy Parks and Recreation Director, the fitness center at the Troy Recreation Center is currently open for normal business hours, while the basketball gymnasiums, the walking track above the gym and the indoor pool are still closed due to storm related damages. Smith said that some fitness classes are restarting this week in multipurpose rooms, as well.
Smith said that baseball and softball fields on side two – fields one through four – are reopened but the fields on side two – fields five through seven – remain closed due to damage for the storm. The Miracle League Field and the Doug McLendon Soccer Complex also remain closed.
“Under no circumstance should anyone walk to these facilities (that are closed), as it is not a safe area,” Smith said. “We have it clearly marked, ‘Do Not Enter,’ and all drives are barricaded.”
Smith said that the goal is for both the indoor and outdoor pools at the Rec Center to open in the near future. Youth baseball and softball teams have already started back to practicing and the start of the season has been pushed back to April 7.
“The staff at Troy Parks and Recreation really was aggressive in cleaning up the facilities that we could and, as we speak, they are working on revising baseball and softball schedules, so that we can play as much as we can,” Smith said.
