A recent study by Evernest identified the U.S. states where young people prefer to buy property and ranked the State Alabama as third among the most desired states for young people to buy property.
The study reported that 49.1 percent of people under 35 owning a home in the state, demonstrating a strong accessibility to homeownership for young adults. The average house price in Alabama is $222,500, which is nearly $200,000 less the median home price in the U.S. in the fourth quarter of 2024.
According to the study, 56.3 percent of Alabama homeowners are reported as paying a mortgage, which indicates a higher percentage of outright ownership compared to most states. The average young adult, aged 25-44, reported income was also $65,600 per year.
“Alabama’s strong performance in young homeownership demonstrates a remarkable balance between housing affordability and market accessibility,” a spokesperson for Evernest said. “The state’s relativity low mortgage rate suggests a more stable housing market where young buyers can potentially avoid long-term debt. This combination of factors creates an environment where young professionals can transition into homeownership earlier in their careers, establishing stronger financial foundations for their futures.”
