Ariton baseball, softball sweep Abbeville

The Ariton Purple Cats and Lady Purple Cats both picked up wins over Abbeville in area matchups on Thursday.
The Ariton baseball team (15-4) swept Abbeville in two Class 2A, Area 4 contests, beating them by a combined 31-0 in the two games.
In game one, Ariton pitcher Reiley Snellgrove threw a shutout, no-hitter striking out eight batters, while giving up no hits or runs. At the plate, Austin Evans hit a double and earned three RBIs, while Byrce Odom also hit a double. Wells Ganey, Austin Evans, Landon Givens and Conner Davidson scored two runs each.
The Cats followed that up with a resounding 16-0 win in game two. Bryson Rhett went 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBIs, while Pierce Gill went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs. Hayes Hammock also hit a triple and scored two runs, while Gabe Jones hit a triple. Both Embry Cook and AJ Guiterez hit a double each. Hammock pitched three innings and gave up no hits or runs with nine strikeouts.
Hammock and Snellgrove combined to give up no hits or runs and struck out a combined 17 batters.
The Lady Cats also throttled Abbeville (12-8-1) by a score of 14-0 in a 2A, Area 3 game. Lizzy Faircloth had a big day on offense and defense for the Lady Cats as she went 2-fo-3 at the plate with a double, five RBIs and three runs. She also struck out six batters and gave up one hit and no runs in two innings in the circle. Briana Achua went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, two runs and one double. Madolyn Hudson also went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and one run. Hudson also struck out one batter and gave up no hits or runs in one inning pitched.
The Zion Chapel Lady Rebels (7-9) also picked up a Class 2A, Area 4 win over Luverne by a score of 5-2. Riley Bannin hit a double and scored two runs, while Emily Rhodes also scored two runs. Sydney Boothe pitched seven innings and fanned seven batters, while giving up two hits and two earned runs. KB Holly tallied six putouts with no fielding errors on defense, while Bannin also earned three putouts, one assist and one double play.
