High School Baseball: CHHS continues play at Gulf Coast Classic

The Charles Henderson Trojans (10-10) continued play at the Gulf Coast Baseball Classic this week.
The Trojans fell 3-1 to Bartlesville (Okla.) on March 18. Clay Johnson led CHHS at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Trenton Bryan pitched four innings and struck out five batters, while giving up two hits and one earned run. Kellen Stewart tallied eight putouts with no fielding errors on defense, as well.
Charles Henderson followed that up with a 12-0 shutout win over Ashland on March 19. CHHS scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back. Wilson Jones, Wes Templin and Will Watkins each hit a double, while Clay Johnson and Damien Williams each hit a triple. Bryan scored two runs.
Stewart pitched three innings and struck out five batters and gave up no hits or runs, while Chase Vaznaian up one hit and no runs in one inning on the mound. Jones also tallied five putouts with no errors.
The Ariton Purple Cats (13-4) earned a 6-0 shutout win over Geneva County on March 18. Bryce Odom went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run, while Pierce Gill went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Easton Kilpatrick struck out seven batters, while giving up two hits and no runs in four innings pitched. Austin Evans also struck out four and gave up one hit and no runs in three innings on the mound.
The Pike Lib Patriots (9-10) topped Holtville on March 18. Garrett Whitaker went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, while Jack Baggett went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double. Kade Brookins also went 2-for-2 with three runs.
Luke Barron pitched four innings and mowed down seven batters, while giving up five hits and one earned run. Charlie Fountain struck out a pair of batters and gave up three hits and four earned runs in one and 2/3 innings of work. Cole Garrott also pitched one and 1/3 innings and fanned four batters along with giving up three hits and no earned runs.
In softball action, the Ariton Lady Purple Cats (11-8-1) lost 6-3 to GW Long on March 18. Long scored four runs in the final three innings. Beth Dixon went 3-for-4 at the plate for Ariton with an RBI, while Lizzy Faircloth hit a home run. Dixon also pitched seven innings and struck out five batters.
