On March 17, Troy Police Chief Danny Barron announced the arrest of a Tuskegee man on a charge of felony looting in Troy.

In a news release on Monday, Barron said that 54-year-old Alfonso Lark, of Tuskegee, had been arrested and charged with felony looting. According to the release, the arrest occurred following a report of an individual unlawfully taking items from the 7000 block of U.S. Highway 29 North. The items were located at a site that had been severely damaged by a storm on Saturday night.

According to the release, Lark was taken into custody and transported to the Troy City Jail for processing before being transferred to Pike County Jail, where he is currently being held on a $2,500 bond. The District Attorney’s Office assisted TPD in the investigation.

“The Troy Police Department will not tolerate any crime – especially crimes of opportunity – during a time when our community is already suffering the loss of valuable property due to this devastating storm,” Barron said. “We have been encouraged by the overwhelming outpouring of support from our residents as they come together to help their neighbors in need. While this is the only reported looting case at this time, let this serve as a warning: Anyone attempting to take advantage of this situation will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
