High School Baseball: Local teams compete in weekend competition

The Charles Henderson, Ariton, Zion Chapel, Pike County and Pike Liberal Arts baseball teams were all in action this weekend.
The Pike Lib Patriots (8-9) secured a series win over the Luverne Tigers with a resounding 19-0 shoutout win on March 14. Pike opened the game with 13 runs in the first inning, including a three-run home run from Garrett Whitaker.
Pruitt Vaughan went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs, while Dawson Bradford went 2-for-2 with an RBI and three runs. Whitaker earned four RBIs with a home run and two runs. Charlie Fountain scored two runs and Luke Barron scored three. Barron pitched three innings and fanned five batters, while giving up two hits and no runs.
The Ariton Purple Cats (12-3) started the weekend off with a 5-3 win over the New Brockton Gamecocks on March 14. Brodie Lowery led Ariton at the plate, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs, while Aven Cook went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Wells Ganey also went 2-for-3. Addison Senn pitched three innings and fanned three batters, while giving up three hits and no earned runs. Hayes Hammock also pitched one and 1/3 innings and struck out a pair of batters along with giving up three hits and three earned runs. Lowery and Easton Kilpatrick struck out two batters each.
For New Brockton, Clark Moran, James Downing and Jacob Fisher each hit a double. Downing scored one run and Bryant Crumpler scored one run. Jacob Fisher pitched six innings and struck out five batters, while giving up 10 hits and no earned runs. New Brockton gave up three fielding errors on defense as a team.
Ariton followed that up with a 9-3 loss to Saint James on March 15. Ganey went 2-for-4, while Senn went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Cook scored two runs. Grant Davis pitched three and 2/3 innings and struck out six batters along with giving up two hits and one earned run.
The Charles Henderson Trojans dropped a contest with Prattville Christian by a score of 6-3 on March 14. Wilson Jones went 2-for-3 for CHHS with one RBI. Kameron Johnson, Chase Vaznaian and Cooper Johnson scored one run each. Clay Johnson pitched three innings and struck out a pair of batters, along with giving up four hits and two earned runs. Kellen Stewart also struck out two and gave up four hits and two earned runs in two innings on the mound.
The Pike County Bulldogs (2-10) were swept by Straughn on March 14. In game one, PCHS lost 13-0. Ben Patterson earned the only hit for the Bulldogs. Britt Albritton pitched three innings and Reid Price struck out one batter and gave up four hits and two earned runs in two innings on the mound.
Pike County also lost game two by a score of 13-0. Mark Griffin earned the only hit for Pike County. Price pitched one and 1/3 innings and gave up eight hits and seven earned runs. Michael Gabel pitched two and 2/3 innings and fanned three batters, while giving up three hits and three earned runs.
The Zion Chapel Rebels (6-7) picked up a 12-2 win over Class 1A Kinston. John Foster Hamm went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, while Dylan Davis went 2-for-3 with three runs. Tyler Bass went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs. Brodie Stinson went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBIs and one run. Gunner Jacobs went 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and one run. Hamm also pitched five innings and struck out four batters, while giving up two hits and one earned run.
