Pike County Emergency Management Agency Director Herb Reeves said Elm Street Road in Troy suffered significant damage during Saturday night’s storm.

Reeves said a possible tornado formed in the area around the Troy Sportsplex around 10:45 Saturday night. Reeves said the EMA was waiting on a report from a National Weather Service damage survey team to determine if it was a tornado. Reeves said the possible tornado tracked from the Sportsplex toward the area east of Walmart, across Elm Street Road and then toward the intersection of Alabama Highway 223 and U.S. Highway 29 before entering Bullock County.

Reeves said initial damage reports indicate a portion of the roof was blown off the Sportsplex and a trailer was overturned in the area near the intersection of 223 and 29. He said minor injuries were reported in the incident with the mobile home.

No fatalities have been reported, Reeves said.

Reeves said there was significant damage on Elm Street Road. He said trees were blocking the road and homes had sustained damage. He said Troy city crews were working to clear the damage and volunteers were assisting in the clean up. He said utility crews were working to restore power in the area.

“There is very significant damage,” Reeves said. “We’re very fortunate there were no more injuries than reported. There were no fatalities. We’re every thankful for that.”

Reeves urged motorists to avoid the storm-affected areas.
