High School Baseball: Local schools earn Thursday wins

The Pike Liberal Arts, Charles Henderson and Ariton baseball teams earned Thursday wins on the baseball diamond.

The Pike Lib Patriots (7-9) picked up a 17-6 win over Luverne. Jackson Bowen had a huge day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and two runs. Kade Brookins went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, while Pruitt Vaughan went 2-for-5 with an RBI, four runs and three stolen bases. Garrett Whitaker scored three runs, while Dawson Bradford went 2-for-2 with an RBI, three runs and two stolen bases. 

Brookins pitched five innings and struck out seven batters, while giving up eight hits and three earned runs. Charlie Fountain also pitched and struck out two batters along with giving up two hits and one earned run. 

The Charles Henderson Trojans (8-7) moved over .500 on the season with an 11-0 shutout win over Geneva on Thursday. Wes Templin went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, one RBI and two runs. Clay Johnson earned three RBIs and scored two runs. Trenton Bryant pitched three and 2/3 innings and fanned three batters, while giving up two hits and no runs. Blake Lowery also struck out a batter and gave up no hits or runs in one and 1/3 innings on the mound. Clay Johnson earned seven putouts with no fielding errors on defense. 

The Ariton Purple Cats (11-2) won their third straight with a 10-0 shutout of the Zion Chapel Rebels (5-7). Bryce Odom, Aven Cook and Brodie Lowery scored two runs each for the Cats, while Conner Davidson tallied three RBIs and a double. Pierce Gill and Addison Senn scored one run, while Kilpatrick scored a run and stole two bases. Austin Evans pitched five innings and struck out eight batters along with giving up two hits and no runs. 

For Zion Chapel, John Foster Hamm earned one hit and Tyler Bass hit a double. Dylan Davis pitched one and 1/3 innings and gave up four hits and two earned runs. Bass pitched one and 2/3 innings and gave up two hits and two earned runs. Brodie Stinson struck out one batter and gave up no hits or runs in one inning on the mound. 

On Thursday, the New Brockton Gamecocks (7-3) also dropped a contest with the Brantley Bulldogs by a score of 12-8. Gavin Hand went 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs and two stolen bases, while Clark Moran went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Griffin Wood pitched three and 1/3 innings and gave up five hits and two earned runs. Kylen Radcliffe and Jacob Fisher struck out two batters each.
